See Arundel Castle,
an 11th century castle and Gothic Cathedral. Visit the historic
abbey town of Battle. Site of the most famous battle in English
history, built around the Abbey which was erected on the site of
the Great Battle of 1066.
Then onto Hastings,
known throughout the world for it's role in the epic story of 1066
and the Norman invasion. A seafront cycle lane has now been opened,
and provides a wonderful, leisurely way of soaking up the sights
and sounds of the town.
Take a walk through
the Ashdown Forest. Six and a half thousand acres of enchanted forest
and heath land, one of England's surviving primeval wonders and the
very place where author A.A. Milne found the inspiration to write
Winnie the Pooh.
Spend a day or two
in Brighton, the birthplace of the English seaside. Brighton and
Hove has a long history as a haven of style and hedonism. It's always
attracted the fashionable and the famous, pioneers and progressives,
the creative and the eccentric and continues to do so to the present
day. Brighton seems to throughout it's history have a way of keeping
in tune with the times.
Meander through the
pretty countryside to Lewes, the county town of East Sussex. Although
surrounded by chalk cliffs, it is William de Warenne's Norman Castle
that dominates the townscape.
These are just a
few of the fantastic places to go and things to see in the surrounding
area. You truly will be spoilt for choice.
